Anti-Poaching Ranger Killed at Private Game Reserve in Bela-Bela
The man was shot when he was ambushed, allegedly by an armed gang of seven men.
Limpopo police have confirmed the murder of an anti-poaching ranger at a private game reserve in Bela-Bela.
The man was shot in the early hours of Friday morning when he was ambushed, allegedly by an armed gang of seven men.
The 24-year-old ranger was patrolling the area with two others who were allegedly bound with cable ties during the attack.
Police says one rhino was poached during the ambush.
Police spokesperson Ronel Otto said, “One of the guards was shot on the leg, he bled to death and died on the scene. The poachers then proceeded to shoot a rhino and dehorned her as well. No arrest has been made yet and out investigations are continuing.”
