POSITION TITLE: City and Wildlife Conservation Outreach Manager
The City and Wildlife Conservation Outreach Manager implements activities related to conservation awareness and education on local and global issues. A focus on ivory demand reduction and other wildlife products will be a key focus in partnership with TNC Africa Region.
The City and Wildlife Conservation Outreach Manager designs and implements conservation awareness outreach on urban natural infrastructure and reducing the demand for illegal wildlife products. S/he works with city communities including schools, private sector, and NGOs to raise awareness and mobilize actions on bringing nature into cities, and protection and restoration of biodiversity in and around urban environment. Develop, support and/or coordinate city community’s conservation-related activities and provides field information to such target audiences. Works with related Chinese government entities and NGO community to create enabling conditions to ban ivory trade and consumption, among other wildlife species. S/he may review proposals, make grants to, and evaluate project results of partnering organizations. S/he helps to raise funds for overall protection work and specific sites by providing input for proposal writing and solicitation as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
Assists in helping urban populations understand the importance of natural infrastructure and human impact on wildlife and ecosystems
Works with related Chinese government agencies and NGO community to create enabling conditions to ban ivory trade and consumption, among other wildlife species.
Maintain and expand partnership with key corporate partners such as Tencent and Alibaba, and raise public awareness on reduce wildlife consumption via social media and e-commerce platforms
Works with city communities including schools, private sector, and NGOs to organize awareness building activities and events on bringing nature into cities, and protection and restoration of clear water, clean air, and biodiversity in and around urban environment.
Review proposals, develop contracts and grant, and evaluate project results of partnering organizations
S/he may help to raise funds for overall protection work and specific sites by providing input for proposal writing and solicitation as needed.
May supervise administrative and project staff and/or volunteers, interns or temporary staff.
Works in partnership with other organizations in a collaborative and advisory capacity.
BA/BS in law, business, natural resources management, international affairs and development or related majors. 5 years’ experience in natural resource management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience negotiating complex agreements.
Experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally.
Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Web Browsers.
Experience with principles of land acquisition.
Experience in training and curriculum design.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
At least 4-6 years’ experience in community development and/or conservation education, or equivalent.
Excellent communications skills including presenting to community leaders, government officials, or related; and working in partnership with other organizations.
Proficient with Power point and Database management.
Experience in working with NGO partners, vendors, government agencies
Working knowledge of current trends in relevant discipline.
Familiarity with the political and cultural environment of target cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, etc.).
Outstanding writing skills and proficient in utilizing social media tools
Photography and video-making skills
Cross cultural communication experience
Fluency in English and Chinese.
