Main Purpose of the role:
To develop, implement and drive a comprehensive communications strategy to build World Animal Protection’s reputation and brand in China across a range of communication channels, as well as to motivate and mobilise key audiences to support our priority campaigns and take meaningful action for animals.

Strategy and planning across all communications functions in China, including: digital, brand, content, media and mobilisation
Implementation of China communication strategies
Leadership of communications team and function in the China office
Reporting and budget management

Duties and Responsibilities
Strategy & planning 30%
Provide significant input and communications leadership during the development of campaign strategies and project plans in China, to ensure that effective communications are integrated into these strategies and plans
Lead the development and implementation of the China office communications strategy in line with regional and global strategies, campaign priorities and organisational priorities
Support China office in developing and implementing effective communications strategies and delivering strong outcomes in support of our priority campaigns and fundraising objectives
Work with Heads in International Marketing and Communications to develop and deliver brand and digital strategies that are cohesive, coordinated and fully integrated

Implementation of strategies and plans 30%
Ensure that communication strategies and plans are delivered effectively and in a timely manner
Make adjustments to plans (within remit) as required to ensure effective delivery
Support and ensure that all China communications to stakeholders, media, supporters and public are aligned with the World Animal Protection brand and consistent on a local and global level
Act as a strategic link and focal point for China office communications, connecting China with regional and global teams
Proactively monitor and anticipate potential sensitive media issues across China that could impact World Animal Protection, and advise the Country Director and China office and regional teams on how to respond and position the organisation
Guide and support China office/local agencies/consultants on appropriate communications tools and channels including online, social, print, broadcast, video
Identify and share communications resources and materials, learnings and support opportunities across the China office and regional teams
Liaise and advise on media requests with Country Director, International Marketing & Communications, campaign and program teams, as required

Leadership 20%
Supervise and manage the performance of the China office communications team to ensure that goals are consistently being met in an effective and efficient manner.
Support and guide China office in positioning World Animal Protection China as the leading international animal welfare organisation

Reporting and budget management 20%
Ensure efficient, effective and ethical use and management of budget funds
Responsible for delivery of communication related KPIs and monitoring and evaluation data, including contributing to monthly, quarterly reports and other reports as required
Organise and control resources, monitor budget performance; produce monthly performance reports to compare budget results with actual results
Effectively manage China office communication budget including quarterly reforecasting

Organisational responsibilities
* Delivery of World Animal Protection’s Global Strategy across the core themes of Mission, Movement & Transformation in a global, matrix environment
* Work cooperatively with external organisations, teams within World Animal Protection and in the wider animal welfare movement to pursue programme objectives and wider organisational goals, including those relating to brand, communications, fundraising and resource management.
* Actively participate in building our brand and maintain the integrity of our brand to support our profile, lead generation, income and engagement.
* Help secure resources (income) and reach (people and partnerships) by actively contributing to our supporter relationships, fundraising, communications, and donor reporting.
* Actively participate and support the organisation to ensure that we manage our resources (financial, staff and IT) efficiently and effectively by improvement of systems, reporting and compliance.
* Contribute to a learning culture and create a positive working environment for staff.
* The role holder will from time to time be required to undertake any other duties that are within the scope of this role.
* Take responsibility for their own health, safety and welfare, comply with H&S policy and procedures, and not act in any way that compromises the safety of themselves, colleagues or the public.
* The post holder may be required to travel internationally to provide support or participate in World Animal Protection’s activities as and when required.

Skills and Experience
At least 7 years’ experience in communications or public relations – either within the private, public or charity sector
International communications or public relations experience, working within a large and complex international organisation
Proven experience developing and delivering successful communication strategies and plans
Proven experience generating proactive media and managing media issues effectively across social and traditional channels
Understanding of brand strategy and management
Previous experience using digital channels such as websites, social media and email marketing
Excellent verbal and written communications skills in both Chinese and English
Strong interpersonal, networking and organizational skills
Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills
Strong awareness of global and regional socio-economic, political and environmental issues would be desirable

Education to Master (or equivalent) in a relevant subject
More than 3 years’ leadership and management experience

Experience of working in a multi-national environment
